When to start assembling the baby essentials?

Not so early that you miss the clothes season, nor so late that it becomes a rush. There is a window that works.

Start around the 16th week of pregnancy, with the bedroom furniture, and organize the shopping to finish everything by the 35th: the last weeks are for resting and waiting for the baby. Did it start later? No guilt: follow the same order, and the Enxovaly schedule reorganizes the steps according to your date.

  • Week 16: order the bedroom furniture, which takes the longest to arrive.
  • Week 20: start the clothes, with the quantities in hand.
  • Week 28: Have the baby shower before the final stretch.
  • Week 35: everything is ready, all that’s left is to pack and rest.

The goal is week 35, not 40

At the end of pregnancy, the belly grows at a surprising speed, tiredness increases and the feet swell. Finishing the baby essentials in the 35th week leaves the final stretch free for rest, and also protects you if the baby decides to arrive early.

  • Babies don't always wait until 40 weeks.
  • The last few weeks yield little for physical tasks.
  • There's plenty of time to get work done and tidy up the house.
  • You await the birth with your suitcase packed, without any pending issues.

Weeks 16 to 19: Furniture First

The fourth is the starting point because it takes the most time: long delivery times, expensive purchases and, often, services that need to be contracted. Before ordering, decide where the baby will sleep, because this choice defines the furniture on the list.

  • Cribs, dressers and mattresses have the slowest deliveries in the baby essentials.
  • Painting, wallpaper and curtains are included in the deadline.
  • Decide beforehand: traditional, coupled, bassinet or portable crib.
  • Measure the space of the room before closing the purchase.

Weeks 20 to 26: clothes, accessories and stroller

With the quantities by size in hand, start with the clothes: it's the most enjoyable part and also the one that takes the most time, because there are so many pieces. From the 23rd week, enter the cart search, which is a time-consuming and price-sensitive decision.

  • Clothes first, then blankets, doilies and sheets.
  • Choose two or three finalist carts and monitor the price.
  • Bathtub and bath items close this phase.
  • Buy each size thinking about the season it will be used for.

Weeks 27 to 35: baby shower, hygiene and final stretch

Schedule the baby shower to take place around the 28th week: after that, the party mood drops quickly. Then, complete the hygiene using what you gained, and from the 30th week onwards, start washing and organizing.

  • Baby shower between the 28th and 34th week, never later than the 36th.
  • Hygiene items after baby shower, buying only what was missing.
  • Week 30: wash all clothes and fabrics in the baby essentials.
  • Week 33: Organize the room and install the child car seat in the car.

Did it start late? Follow the order, not the calendar

Mom, if you're reading this at 25 or 30 weeks, breathe: there's time. The schedule matters less than the sequence. Maintain the order of the steps, shorten the intervals and cut out what is optional.

  • The order is the same: furniture, clothes, cart, baby shower, washing, organizing.
  • Choose furniture with prompt delivery and concentrated online shopping.
  • The baby shower can be virtual, with the same list of gifts.
  • Ask for help: washing and organizing go well with the family.

It can be done, following the same order of the fast-paced steps: ready-to-deliver furniture, clothes purchases concentrated in a few outlets or online, and washing done together with the family.
